The Cultural Coast of Florida

Sarasota County is known as Florida Cultural Coast and is home to ballet, a professional symphony, opera, more than 10 independent theaters, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and dozens of art galleries. The trendy Asolo Theater was an 18th century theater in Italy that was dismantled, moved to Sarasota piece by piece and rebuilt on the Ringling Estate in the 1950’s. The wealth of cultural activities available to residents and visitors gave rise to Sarasota’s nickname as the “Jewel of Florida’s Cultural Coast.”
